At six, Merry was abandoned by her mother, who decided to join a religious order, leaving Merry to be raised by Nuns. At 18, she met a boy and thought it was love. She hadn't experienced love before, only rejection. Sadly for her, it was far from what she longed for, and the only end result was an unwanted pregnancy. Since it was out of the question to let the Nuns know, she travelled in secret and had an abortion. Years later, she married Douglas Gresham, the stepson of C S Lewis. Having grown up in Tasmania, Merry had no idea who C S Lewis was, and never suspected that his writings would have a life-changing impact on her. Filmed at their home in County Carlow, while she and Douglas were living in Ireland.
