California's Long Beach V.A. Medical Center joined an initiative to right a wrong committed against a European-Jewish immigrant serviceman who overcame anti-Semitic discrimination in battle (and aiding fellow Korean War POW's imprisoned for 3-years in China) to earn his superiors' recommendations for a Medal-of-Honor, only to be prejudicially denied for 55-years, as were other minorities. Anglo-American artist Stewart Wavell-Smith contributed his services to paint a portrait of Cpl. Tibor Rubin in front of the VA Medical Center which took his name as a result of a campaign by Greg Lee, California Commander of the Jewish War Veterans and US Rep. Alan Lowenthal (D-CA-47) of Orange County, California. Richard Beam and Walt Dannenberg lead the ceremony held May 10th, shown here.
